Engineering Options for Dryland Salinity

This Decision Support Tool can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a range of engineering options to manage areas affected by dryland salinity. This tool is designed to help salinity managers to:

  • Assess what engineering options may be applicable in their particular area.
  • What are the likely success criteria for a particular engineering option.
  • Make a preliminary assessment of the economics and environmental effects of particular options.

The Decision Support Tool also contains background and supporting material in the form of case studies, fact sheets and literature references on a range of engineering options used in salinity studies.

To evaluate a salinity management option this decision support tool provides the following:

  1. A quick checklist to assess whether you have a dryland salinity problem

  2. A list of existing management options for dryland salinity

  3. A series of interactive web pages that allow you to:
    • select your location in Australia,
    • identify an appropriate engineering option for your particular area and
    • download spreadsheet models to access your engineering option

To reach the models, progress through the site using the prompt or the Next button.

Background details on the project can be found at About the Project
