Case Studies
Applications of Engineering Options in Salinity
Management
The literature review indicated over 30 relevant papers in which
engineering activities have been undertaken or undertaken in Salinity
Management. Many of the studies evaluated were actually planning and
strategic studies and there are limited representative case studies
covering one or all of design, installation, cost and impact of a
particular option.
From these 19 case studies were selected has demonstrating relevant
information on the application of engineering options in a dryland
context. Many of these are from Western Australia.
The literature survey and the limited case studies highlights the lack
of effective documentation of activities that are being conducted and also
the limited implementation of engineered solutions to salinity
management.
The case studies are listed in Table 1-1 according to the
categories:
- Groundwater pumping
- Shallow surface drains and Seepage Interceptor drains
- Deep Surface Drains
- Subsurface Drains
